It\u2019s merely an extended period of break from work taken for either<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Pursuing a degree<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Volunteering for a personal project<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Travelling<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mental detoxification<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Even spending quality time with kith and kin!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Do companies really offer such an incentive?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The answer is absolutely yes they do!<br>For the facts, depending upon the policy of the company, some go an extra mile and even offer paid sabbatical leaves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>When is it applicable?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Still, it pretty much depends upon the policy of the individual company, yet just for an approximation it won\u2019t be wrong to say that on average, a person who has completed service of five years or more is eligible for a six months plus leave.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Enlisting some of the renowned companies offering sabbatical leaves:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While most companies do offer sabbatical leaves which are mostly unpaid but you will find yourself fortunate enough to be an employee of some of the few enlisted companies which are generous enough to offer paid sabbatical leaves!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Paid sabbatical leaves granted by:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table><tbody><tr><td><strong>Adobe System<\/strong>, one of the leading software company worldwide;<\/td><td><strong>Genetech<\/strong>, San Francisco based biotechnology corporation;<\/td><\/tr><tr><td><strong><strong>Arthrex<\/strong>, <\/strong>the orthopaedic supply manufacturer;<\/td><td><strong>Hyland Software<\/strong>, the developer of OnBase content management software<\/td><\/tr><tr><td><strong>AutoDesk<\/strong>, a software company;<\/td><td><strong>Baker Donelson<\/strong>, a law firm;<\/td><\/tr><tr><td><strong>Deloitte<\/strong>, a Newyork based professional services firm;<\/td><td><strong>Boston Consulting Group<\/strong>: BCG<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>If you aren\u2019t employed in any above-given company or the company you work at doesn\u2019t offer paid sabbatical leaves, it\u2019s time to chin up and stay content with the fact that at least you are given this facilitation to have a \u2018sabbatical leave\u2019!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>How to mention \u2018sabbatical leave\u2019 in a resume?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now that the burning question is brought forward, the answer lies in just two small steps!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Step number one:<\/strong> Honesty is the best policy!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While many will argue that a sabbatical leave mustn\u2019t be mentioned in a resume, I am of the view that one must remain honest while typing out a resume!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In today\u2019s world, none of the companies would mind hiring a person who took a sabbatical for a known cause that can alleviate the person\u2019s rank and add value to their company with the added skills learnt in the given period!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Step number two: <\/strong>Mention the benefit of Sabbatical taken<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You travelled? Mention about the experience and cultural interaction or any new language skill\/photography passion followed upon<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Focused on freelancing? Mention about the financial security and talents attained<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Volunteered for a personal project? Mention the ideas and skills acquired<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Spent time with family?
